Barclays was riding high a few years ago, after it emerged largely unscathed from the financial meltdown. But starting in 2010 the UK bank has been enmeshed in a series of legal and regulatory scandals involving violations of economic sanctions against countries such as Iran and illegal manipulation of the LIBOR interest rate index. Now it is under investigation for having used corrupt means to avoid government intervention during the meltdown.
